Comptroller Atuluku Strengthens Ties with Army, Immigration in Bayelsa

In the spirit of inter-agency collaboration,Comptroller Salamatu Atuluku, Customs Area Controller of Port Harcourt Area I Command, has embarked on a high level visit to sister agencies in Bayelsa state.
Her visits to the Commander of the Sixteenth Brigade Headquarters, Brigadier-General O. Obolo, and the Comptroller of Immigration in Bayelsa, F. O. Atteh, signal a renewed drive to strengthen joint action against national security threats.
A statement made available by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Barilule Aanee, said the engagements in Yenagoa underscored customs’ focus in deepening collaboration with agencies at the frontline of territorial security.
Commenting during the visits, Comptroller Atuluku pointed out that effective border protection demands a united security architecture, commending the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Immigration Service for their central roles in safeguarding the country.
Comptroller Atuluku, who said customs shared the same responsibility in securing borders, promoting lawful trade and defending the economy from sabotage, also described synergy among security institutions as essential, noting that customs is not only a revenue agency but a crucial actor in national security.
Still, she said intelligence sharing, joint operations and continuous cooperation remain necessary for tackling smuggling, illegal migration and trafficking.
She reaffirmed the commitment of the Port Harcourt Area I Command, to oversee customs activities in Bayelsa outstation, and have closer partnership with security counterparts.
Brigadier-General Obolo, who commended Comptroller Atuluku for the visit, also said that it reinforced the long standing collaboration between the Army and Customs.
He pledged continued support for joint intelligence based operations designed to protect Nigeria’s economic borders.
Commenting during the visit, the Immigration Comptroller Atteh, who praised the engagement and affirmed the shared responsibility of both agencies in regulating movement across Nigeria’s borders, also promised continued support in collective efforts against cross border crimes.
Comptroller Atuluku, who said the visits formed part of a deliberate plan to strengthen coordination between customs and security agencies in Bayelsa, also expressed confidence that the renewed partnerships would enhance operational harmony and contribute to a more secure environment for trade and national development.
