MMA Customs Command Makes Significant Improvement In Revenue Generation Drive, Trade Facilitation, And Suppression Of Smuggling

The Customs Area Controller of Murtala Muhammad Area Command , Comptroller MT Awe, while giving account of his stewardship from January to November 2025, during the media press briefing held at Ikeja on Wednesday 26 November 2025, said in the last 11months , the command has remained steadfast in upholding its core responsibilities of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and suppression of the smuggling.
The Customs Area Controller of Murtala Muhammad Area Command Comptroller MT Awe, who highlighted the significant achievements and accomplishments of the command within the period under review, also attributed the command’s exceptional performance within this period to dedication of personnel, strong collaboration with partner agencies and continuous engagement stakeholders.
Commenting on the revenue profile of the command, he said the command has generated a total sum of N179, 910, 971, 102.81billion within the period under review
This revenue figure shows a significant improvements over N164, 819, 895, 457 billion generated in the corresponding period of 2024.
Similarly, this revenue figure reflects a 9.16 percent increase, amounting to N15, 91, 75, 645.81billion growth.
The Customs Area Controller, who said the command has exceeded its annual revenue target, also said this impressive performance reflects the unwavering commitment to efficiency, transparency, and accountability.
Still, he said the success recorded so far is driven by enhanced trade compliance, timely monitoring of import transactions, swift detection of irregularities , and deliberate actions taken to eliminate all revenue leakages.
The Customs Area Controller, who appreciated all the compliant trader and clearing agents for their cooperation and dedication, also said their commitment has been vital to achieving this milestone.
Commenting on the Anti-smuggling operations of the command, he said in line with the Service’s commitment to safeguarding the national borders and protecting the economy, the command has intensified its smuggling operations within the period under review, which has successfully resulted in the interception and seizure of various items ranging from 3 packages of Colorado Cat Leaf, 4pkgs of Nigeria Immigration Service uniform materials, 1pkg of Two-way Radio Walkie Talkie, 1pkg of TIPPMANN Semi-Automatic 50/60 Calinre Magfed Paintball marker gun, 75pkgs of Pangolin Scales, and Pkgs of Elephant Tusk.
Further breakdown of the intercepted items include 2pkgs of Canadian Cannabis Sativa, 6pkgs of 225mg Tramadol Hydrochloride, 17pkgs of unregistered 300mg Pregabalin tablets, 5pkgs of unregistered 2mg Sardulud and 50mg Not flex tablets, 6pkgs of 225mg Tramadol Hydrochloride, and 524 PCs of signed Deutsch Bank and AIB Bank Cheques.
Comptroller Awe, who said the total Duty Paid Value of these seizures is N7, 201, 895, 232 billion, also added that the command was able to achieve this feat through robust intelligence gathering, strengthened surveillance efforts and effective collaboration with relevant partners.
Besides, he announced that the command remains firmly committed to its zero tolerance stance on smuggling, and will continue to enforce all applicable trade laws with the highest stands of integrity and professionalism.
Commenting on stakeholders engagement, he pointed out that strong stakeholders relationships are central to the command’s achievements.
He disclosed that throughout the period under review, the command sustained an open communication and mutual cooperation with all the stakeholders and sister agencies.
He noted that these engagement enabled the command to resolve challenges amicably, harmonize procedures, and deepen institutional trust.
He however said, together the command created a more conducive environment for legitimate trade, while maintaining strict and consistent enforcement against all forms of violation.
He expressed his profound gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, and the entire management team for their visionary leaders and unwavering support, adding that their guidance has been instrumental to every accompliment the command have recorded.
