Apapa Customs Destroys Hazardous Poultry Products Worth N329BILLION
The Apapa Customs Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service, destroyed seized hazardous frozen poultry products worth N329,430,807.00, recently in Lagos.
The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, who was represented by Deputy Comptroller (DC) Fidelis Nwanze, in charge of Enforcement, stated at the destruction site in Epe, that the exercise is in line with section 23 of Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023.
The Deputy Comptroller Fidelis Nwanze, said experts have already told them that these items are not good for human consumption, hence the major reason why they went to Epe to destroy it.
According to him, the Command is doing this to discourage those who engage in this act, and would also serve as deterrent to other importers who may want to do such.
DC Fidelis Nwanze further revealed that the command is working seriously to arrest those behind the importation of the seized products.
In the words of DC Fidelis Nwanze: “My message to Nigerians is that these goods are not good for human consumption, so they should avoid them. In as much as Customs wants to encourage trade facilitation, we don’t allow illicit trade”.
