The Customs Area Controller of Murtala Mohammed Area Command (MMAC) of Nigeria Customs Service has commissioned an Advanced Cargo Screening X-ray Machine at the Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) PLC’s ultra-modern warehouse.
The new state-of-the-art equipment which was officially commissioned by the Customs Area Controller of Customs in charge of the Hajj and Cargo Terminal, Comptroller Michael Toyin Awe, said that the ceremony underscored customs’ commitment to innovation, efficiency, and national security in trade operations.
Comptroller Awe who spoke at the event, explained that the installation of the advanced X-ray machine is in line with the Service’s mandate to simplify customs processes, promote transparency, and facilitate legitimate trade, while strengthening security across Nigeria’s borders.
He noted that this new facility will not only reduce cargo processing time, but will also enhance operational efficiency and foster stakeholders’ confidence in the command’s cargo handling system.
Besides, he said the cutting-edge machine is expected to significantly improve cargo screening operations by detecting prohibited and restricted items more effectively, while ensuring that legitimate businesses enjoy faster and smoother clearance processes.
Aside from this, he further stated that Industry stakeholders who welcomed the development, also noted that it represents a crucial milestone in Nigeria’s quest to align its trade processes with global best practices.
The SAHCO facility, the report said, already renowned for its world-class infrastructure, is equipped with ultra-modern Ground Support Equipment and advanced technologies that aid both import and export procedures.
He also stated that with this additional investment in security and efficiency, the company has further solidified its role in ensuring seamless movement of goods across all commercially operated airports in the country.
At the end, he said the commissioning of the equipment marks another milestone in the NCS’s ongoing drive to balance trade facilitation with security, providing a safer and more business-friendly environment for international commerce in Nigeria.
