Tincan Island Customs Command Concludes A Comprehensive In-House Staff Training Programme
The Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has successfully concluded a comprehensive in-house staff training programme held from Monday, October 13 to Friday, October 17, 2025, aimed at enhancing the capacity and professionalism of its senior officers.
The report said the week-long training, conducted within the command premises, brought together officers from various units and departments to strengthen core competencies and operational efficiency.
Commenting during the opening ceremony, the Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Frank Onyeka emphasized the importance of continuous learning and capacity development, encouraging officers to take full advantage of such opportunities to sharpen their skills and stay abreast of evolving operational demands.
Besides, he said this training Programme is not just a routine exercise, but an investment in the growth of the personnel of the Service. He therefore urged all officers to apply the knowledge gained to their daily responsibilities and strive for excellence in service delivery.
A statement signed and released by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Oscar Ivara, disclosed that the just-concluded session targeted senior officers, while plans are underway to organise a similar training programme for junior officers in the nearest future, as no cadre will be left behind in the command’s drive for enhanced efficiency and professionalism.
Resource persons for the programme were drawn from within the command, reflecting the depth of knowledge and experience available internally.
Key topics covered during the sessions included: Physical Examination which was handled by the Customs Area Controller, Reputation Management, Risk Management and Documentary Checks, Evidence Exploitation, Customs Procedure Codes and Customs Classification. Others included VIN Valuation, Customs Valuation, Code of Conduct, Customs Administration among others.
At the end, Comptroller Onyeka noted that the command remains committed to building a highly skilled, knowledgeable, and proactive workforce capable of meeting the dynamic challenges of modern customs operations.
In their reactions after the training, several participants shared their appreciation for the quality and depth of the sessions, adding that the programme provided valuable insights and enhanced their operational capabilities.
Many highlighted the practical nature of the training, which they said would positively influence their day-to-day responsibilities.
commenting further, one of the officers, Assistant Controller Rose Bonat of the Transire Unit lauded the command for what she called a “laudable and forward-thinking initiative.”
She announced that the exercise has exposed her to updated standard operating procedures and best practices that will significantly boost her efficiency and confidence on the job.
Furthermore, AC Rose Bonat said this training has broadened her understanding and equipped her with tools that are directly applicable to her role.
Above all, she commended the leadership of the command for investing in the professional growth of officers.
