Comptroller Dera Nnadi Receives Prestigious Award From NDLEA

The Customs Area Controller of Tin Can Island Port Customs Command, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, who has made significant impact in the fight against drug trafficking, safeguard the nation’s seaports and protect the nation’s economy from illicit trade practices, has been recognized and honoured by the chairman of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier-General, Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd) during the official commissioning of the agency’s ultra modern office on Wednesday 2024, at Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island, Lagos.
This recognition given to Comptroller Dera Nnadi, was a result of his successes recorded in intercepting smuggled narcotics and cannabis sativa, in the past two years, which poses grave threat to national security and economic stability.
The adage which says that good people will shine even in darkness is tailored made for Comptroller Dera Nnadi. He has demonstrated that he is a core administrator with the way and manner he has made appreciable and possible impact in Nigeria Customs Service.
Among other dignitaries who received the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s (NDLEA’s) award, included the Customs Area Controller of Apapa Customs Command, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, the Managing-Director of Eko Atlantic City, Mr Ronald Chagoury, United Kingdom High Commissioner in Nigeria, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who represented by Barrister Bola Salu Hundeyin, Secretary of Lagos State Government.
The newly commissioned office, according to the report, was donated to the NDLEA by the United Kingdom Drug Enforcement Agency.
The Chairman of NDLEA, Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa, who said Comptroller Dera Nnadi, has distinguished himself as an acute drug fighter and ambassador, also said he is continuously fighting against drug importation into Nigeria through the seaport.
The review of Comptroller Nnadi impressive performance revealed that, he has been instrumental to high profile seizures of illicit drugs at Tin Can Island Port Customs Command, which included interception of two containers laden with cocaine and another with heroine, suspected to have been shipped from South Africa.
Further review of recent interception made by Tin Can Island Port Customs Command included 1072kg of cannabis seized, which represents the biggest single seizures of cannabis indica at seaport in the country.
It is not in every dispensation that produces good leaders. Sometimes it would be a mixture of good and bad leaders. But when there are more good leaders in Nigeria Customs Service than the bad ones , chances are high that the bulk of the goals of Nigeria Customs Service will be achieved.
Hardwork, dedication to duty, purposefulness and determination to achieve result has been identified as some of the essential qualities that Comptroller Dera Nnadi, has possessed to take the service to next level.
Above all, further review of the seized illicit drugs has shown that few months ago, the Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, was at Tin Can Island Port Customs Command to display Intercepted illicit drugs with estimated Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N4.1billion.
The Chairman of NDLEA, Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa, who expressed his profound appreciation to the synergy between Nigeria Customs Service and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), also called for improved collaboration between the two agencies.
During the event, participants were entertained with the display of the diving capacity of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s marine officers, who demonstrated their expertise to the audience.
