The Tin can Island Port Customs Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, under the leadership of Comptroller Dera Nnadi, on Tuesday, October 2024, announced that the command has recorded a total revenue of N986.3 billion between January and October 22, 2024.
The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, who revealed this revenue figure described it as very impressive, comparing it to the entire revenue of N716.4 billion collected by the command in the corresponding year of 2023.
Comptroller Dera Nnadi said: “Even though the year has not ended, we have surpassed last year’s revenue collection by N476 billion.”
The Customs Area Controller, who made this pronouncement while receiving the executive members of the League of Maritime Editors, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office, also added that the command has recorded massive seizures during the period under review.
He said, the duty paid value of the various seizures was put at N4.5 billion, representing an impressive performance when compared with N1. 51billion collected in the corresponding period of 2023, on equivalent items that were seized.
According to him:
“This is an indication that the command has surpassed last year’s seizures by N3.4 billion”.
He commended the Comptroller-General of the Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for giving officers of the command all the support and motivation which have helped in their performance.
The Customs Area Controller, further commended the officers of the command as well as stakeholders who paid the duties for the milestone recorded.
Comptroller Dera Nnadi, informed his visitors that the management of the customs led by Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, is aware that the federal government relies so much on the revenue from the Customs to offset some obligations to Nigerians, which he is very proud to contribute to this objective.
In addition to this, he said: “The Customs command is always ready to collaborate with traditional stakeholders in line with the fundamental pillars of the CGC, Adeniyi, which is the vision of collaboration, consolidation and innovation”.
He therefore told his visitors that, in every week, the command chooses a new slogan to help motivate officers and men of the command in their job. He also announced that, the slogan for the week when he received his visitors was “reform or regret”.
In her remark, the President of League, Mrs. Remi Itie congratulated the Customs Command and the Customs Area Controller, for their achievements and efforts in revenue generation and anti-smuggling.
She said, she was not surprised that Comptroller Dera Nnadi, has been performing creditably well in Tincan Island port Customs Command, considering his impressive performance, while serving in Seme Customs Command.
At the end of the visit, she promised that, members of League will always support the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and his entire management team in their national assignment at the seaports, airports and border station.
