CGC Adeniyi Once Again Commissions Magnificent Sport Arena At Murtala Mohammed Airport Command

… Urges officers and stakeholders at MMAC to attach value to their health

The Comptroller- General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR has told officers and men of Murtala Mohammed Airport Command to attach value to their lifestyle and health.

CGC Adeniyi disclosed this on Tuesday at the MMA command during the official commissioning of the Command’s new magnificent sport arena.

The CGC who commended the Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Toyin Awe for the laudable initiative, also said that the sport center is meant to encouraged all to live a healthy lifestyle.

He expressed delights for the opportunity given to him to commission the new project, which has been named in his honour. “It is indeed a very humbling feeling for me, that i have been considered fit to have this sport arena named after me”

He thanked the Customs area Controller and his team who had brought up this initiative. He also expressed sincere gratitude to all stakeholders, whose collaboration, cooperation and generosity has been leveraged to get this project completed. He added that, he is indeed very grateful.

CGC Adeniyi is quoted as saying that: “Those who are familiar
with the operations in the command are aware
that this is not an easy task.
Historically, they know that when an officer is posted to the command, he is like a warrior going to war. Sometimes when an officer comes to war in this command, the manifestation of his victory might be that he is able to generate revenue and not compromise on trade facilitation with hard experiences. We have example of those kind of controllers in the command in those days”.

He said, “sometimes when an officer is posted to the command, he will put a lot of emphasis on trade facilitation, wants things to move as expected and would allow revenue to take a backstage. While adding that in the last one year the command have had a controller who
has effectively promoted trade facilitation and revenue generation”.

He congratulated the Customs Area Controller and his team for what they have done, adding that no controller can do it alone.

He noted that Comptroller Michael Awe must have surrounded himself with some closed associates and allies to achieve what he had achieved, he once more congratulated them for having put in place this magnificent sport arena.

CGC Adeniyi is quoted as saying that: “The upgraded quarter guards was in that same position when they joined the service in 1990. And Comptroller Michael Awe have come up with this initiative and idea as he is about to leave the service, he could conveniently have left it. This is how i meet it, but he decided to commit resources and upgrade it. This is really commendable and i commend all his lieutenants for being part of this selfless service. Every where we go, we must endeavour to make it look better than we met it”.

He prayed that God will be with Comptroller Michael Awe and bless him in all his future endeavour for what he has done.

Besides this, he noted that this spot center a is meant to encourage people to live a healthy life, as Lagos is a very hectic city. He revealed that when you work in Lagos, it is always very difficult for people to maintain a healthy balance between life and work.

CGC Adeniyi is quoted as saying that: “All we are bothered about every time is
whether the PAAR has been issued, airway bill has been captured, duty has been centered and inspection has been done. Most of the time, we compromise our health. We hardly listen to
what our body is telling us.
Everything is about what we will get from the declaration. This is an opportunity for you to rededicate your life and ensure that you maintain a balance between the demands, the rigours of life in lagos and that of your health”.

CGC Adeniyi, who commended the project for effective use by officers and all stakeholders, also assured that any time he finds himself in Lagos, he will make the best use of this sport centre.

In his opening speech, the Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Michael Toyin Awe, disclosed that the inauguration of the facilities are testament of engagement with their stakeholders.

He appreciated the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for the privilege and opportunity given him to serve in the command.

Comptroller Awe also express his heartfelt gratitude to the command’s stakeholders, including customs licence agents, freight forwarders, terminal operators, and others whose generous contributions brought the project to life.

In his words of Comptroller Michael Awe: “Our collective efforts reflects the power of unity and the profound impact of sheer responsibility. The journey of this project began when the management of the command proposed to build an officer’s mess within the command premises, secured an approval from the Customs Headquarters to that effects and the command engaged the stakeholders as a corporate social responsibility.

Unfortunately, he said further consultation clearly indicates
that the construction of such facilities within this environment would be underutilized, except the request to repropose the initial approval of the officers mess to sport arena is graciously granted and the construction commenced immediately.

In addition to this, Comptroller Michael Awe, disclosed that this sport arena is more than just a physical structure, rather it represents a beacon of unity, awareness, and progress.

Comptroller Michael Awe is quoted as saying that: “For the officers and men of this command, whose
responsibility demand physical edurance, mental alertness and teamwork, this arena would serve as a vital tool for recreation, fitness, comradeship, it would also serve as a critical tool to enhance both individual and organization effectiveness. The construction of this sport facility also demonstrate the profound ways in which partnership between the private and the public sectors can possibly impact our community”.

This facility, according to him, would not just serve the personnel of Murtala Muhammed Area Command, but would also be a symbol of our collaboration with stakeholders, foster growth, trust, and the sense of community.

Comptroller Michael Awe, who said the contribution of shareholders go beyond funding, supply of bricks and mortar, also disclosed that it is a lasting legacy of investment in the well-being of their personnel.

He reminded all presence at the event that greatness is not achieved in isolation, but success is built on teamwork, collaboration, and perseverance. He added that this facility would foster the quality, not only among customs personnel but also among everyone it touches.

However, Comptroller Michael Awe urged officers and men of his command to fully embrace the gift, utilize it to sharpen their physical fitness, build stronger tides with colleagues and other users.

The Customs Area Controller further encouraged his officers to recharge their spirit for the important work they do daily. He told the stakeholders to consider this as a stepping stone to greater collaborations in future, while saying that “together we will continue to create project that will live lasting legacy for the betterment of our society”.

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR and his management team, for the unweaving support in granting their requests promptly.

In a similarly development, he extended his special appreciation to all the stakeholders, including contributors and builders
who played major role, through their efforts in making this vision a reality.

Comptroller Michael Awe, who said he will not end the address
without appreciating their sister agencies for their unending collaboration, also disclosed that he will not forget to express his special appreciation
to the officers and men of Murtala Mohammed Airport Command for their dedication to duty.

At the end, he said as “we commission these facilities, let us celebrate not only this achievement, but also the uneding partnership that made it possible. Together, we are proving that when we walk hand in hand, we can truly make a difference”.
