Customs Has Achieved Record Breaking Revenue Figures, Contributing Significantly To The Federal Government’s Fiscal Objectives—Says Zone’A’Coordinator,OC Orbih

•••The CGC has elevated the Nigeria Customs Service to unparalleled heights of efficiency and professionalism.

The Zone ‘A’ Coordinator, O.C. Orbih has said that the conferment of the “Iconic Maritme Personality of the Year 2024” award on the Comptroller-General of Customs reflects the remarkable transformation that has occurred within the Service under his astute leadership.

He further noted that the modernization of Customs procedures, strengthening of risk management systems and optimization of revenue collection processes have yielded unprecedented results.

He recalled that in the past year alone, the Service have achieved record breaking revenue figures, contributing significantly to the federal government’s fiscal objectives.

The Zone ‘A’ Coordinator, O C Orbih disclosed this when he read his appreciation speech, on the occasion of an award presentation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, as the “Iconic Maritme Personality of the Year 2024”, held at Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

He described the Comptroller-General of Customs as a remarkable leader whose visionary stewardship has transformed the Nigeria Customs Service and left an indelible mark on the maritme sector.

Beside this, he also expressed his profound gratitude for the visionary leadership of Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, dsm, FNIIA psc+, who has elevated the Nigeria Customs Service to unparalleled heights of efficiency and professionalism.

Moreover, he noted that under his leadership, the Service has fostered stronger partnerships with other government agencies, international organizations, and private sector.

According to him, these strategic alliances have improved intelligence sharing, leading to more effective joint operations in combating smuggling and other forms of Customs offenses.

He added that, the harmonious relationship has also facilitated trade, reduce clearance times, enhance compliance levels among stakeholders.

Furthermore, the deployment of cutting edge technology has revolutionized the Service operations, while advance scanning systems and digital solutions have significantly improved the cargo examination processes and risk management capabilities.

Aside from this, he disclosed that these innovations have reduced cargo dwell time and improved ease of doing business at our ports.

Similarly, he said the CGC’S leadership excellence has inspired a generation of Customs officers who now approach their duties with renewed vigour and commitment. In the area of training and capacity building, he said the CGC has continuously equipped officers with the knowledge and skills needed to meet contemporary Customs challenges, which has resulted in a more competent and confident workforce that consistently delivers on its mandate.

The Zonal Coordinator is quoted as saying that: “The international recognition garnered by the Nigeria Customs Service under your leadership speaks volume. From the World Customs to regional bodies, your innovative approaches to customs administration have become a reference points for best practices. Your diplomatic acumen has strengthened on international partnerships and positioned Nigeria as a key player in global trade facilitation”.

In the words of Zone ‘A’ Coordinator: “I have had the privilege of witnessing the transformative impact of the comptroller-General of Customs’ exceptional leadership style. His consultative approach, decisive decision making, and result driven mindset have been instrumental in cultivating a culture of transparency, accountability and meritocracy. His open door policy has fostered an environment of trust and collaboration, motivation of officers to strive for excellence and achieved outstanding results”.

In his appreciation speech, he commended the distinguised maritime journalists whose unwavering commitment to excellence through the award ceremony exemplifies the finest traditions of maritime journalism in Nigeria, adding that their shrewd observations and promotion of best practices continues to elevate standards across the maritme sector.

The Zone ‘A’ Coordinator, O. C. Orbih is quoted as stating that: “The CGC sir, as you received this well deserved award today, please accept the assurances of our continued loyalty and commitment to implementing your vision for a modern, efficient and world class customs administration. Your exemplary leadership continues to bring out the best in us, and we are proud to serve under your authority”.

At the end of appreciation speech, he congratulated the CGC once again, on being named “Iconic Maritme Personality of the Year 2024”, adding that this honour does not just reflect the CGC personal achievement, but the collective success of the entire Nigeria Customs Service under his visionary leadership.
