Seme Customs Strengthens Stakeholder Relations For Enhanced Security And Trade

In line with strategic move to strengthen collaboration and enhance operational efficiency, the Customs Area Controller of Seme Area Command, Comptroller Benedict Oramalugo, PhD, has embarked on series of courtesy visits to key traditional leaders and security agencies in Badagry, Lagos State.
During the visit, Comptroller Oramalugo emphasised the command’s unwavering commitment to promoting strong relationships with stakeholders, reinforcing security measures and promoting seamless trade facilitation in the region.
In an effort to acknowledge the crucial role of traditional institutions in maintaining peace and stability, he paid homage to the Oba Akran of Badagry and the Oba of Iberoko, where he expressed the importance of synergy between customs and local authorities in ensuring a secure and conducive environment for legitimate trade.
Beside his effort to enhance inter-agency cooperation, he also visited top security formations, including Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, Nigerian Army 243 RECCE Battalion Regiment, Nigerian Police Division, Badagry and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.
The report said, discussions during the courtesy visit was centered on strengthening intelligence-sharing, improving border security, and fostering a more coordinated approach to tackling smuggling and other transborder crimes.
He maintained that effective stakeholder collaboration remains a cornerstone of the command’s strategy to optimize revenue generation, enhance border security, and contribute to national development.
Comptroller Oramalugo is quoted as stating that: “Our mission at Seme Area command goes beyond revenue collection, ensuring national security and fostering economic growth. Strong partnerships with traditional institutions and security agencies are vital in achieving these objectives”.
He recalled how the CGC told him to meet all sister agencies, when he was posted to Seme Customs Command and seek synergy with them in order to combat smuggling.
Aside from collaboration and assurances to succeed in Seme command, he believed that when the command is overwhelmed with smugglers they will always come to assist the command to combat smugglers.
He said, he came to Seme to build synergy with other security agencies so that he can succeed like he did in other commands.
