MMIA Customs Makes Significant Seizures

Amidst the various prevailing economic challenges facing Nigeria, the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) command of Nigeria Customs Service, under the exceptional leadership of Comptroller Effiong Harrison, has recorded significant milestones in the area of anti-smuggling activities and revenue generation, which has resulted in the seizures of three boxes of 142 parcels of refined cannabis known as Canada loud, from a passenger on board Ethiopian Airlines.
The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Effiong Harrison told Journalists at the Arrival Hall ‘E’ that the illicit substance have a Duty Paid Value of N290 million
So far, the suspects of the illicit drugs and his passport has been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and action. Comptroller Effiong Harrison noted that the officers and men of the command remained resolute and dedicated in ensuring that smuggling activities is reduced to the barest minimum.
He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to enforcing custom regulations and maintaining the highest operational standards.
Beside expressing his readiness to consolidate on the policy thrust of the CGC, for the seamless execution of the mandate of the Service, he promised to make significant achievements in revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations.
Comptroller Effiong Harrison urged officers to align with outstanding examples sets by the Comptroller-General of Customs in revenue collection, trade facilitation, uncompromising enforcement and sustained engagement in the Service and in national interest.
He warned the perpetrators of these illicit drugs to desist from their criminal activities as the Service is determined to stop entry of such illicit items into the country.
In his remarks, Mr Muhammad -Tukur Ahmad, commander of narcotic and head of operations, MMIA command who received the suspects with the seized drugs, commended the Service on behalf of the Director-general of the agency, Rtd. Col. Buba Maruwa.
Mr Ahmad, who appreciated the continuous collaboration of customs with the NDLEA in ensuring that Nigeria economy remained safe from saboteurs, also
thanked the comptroller Effiong Harrison, for the seizures alongside arrest of the suspect.
He assured the public of a thorough investigation to find out all the people connected with the seizures.
At the end, Ahmad promised to inform the public of the outcome of the investigation in due time.
