The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Lagos Port Complex has strengthened security architecture at Nigeria’s seaports with the donation of operational equipment to the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, reaffirming its commitment to protecting critical maritime infrastructure and enhancing trade facilitation.

The security equipments were presented recently in Lagos on behalf of the Managing-Director of the NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, by the Port Manager of the Lagos Port Complex, Adebowale Lawal.

Commenting during the presentation ceremony, Lawal said the donation was aimed at reinforcing the security architecture of the nation’s seaports and waterfronts, noting that a secure port environment remains critical to efficient maritime operations and Nigeria’s economic growth.

He pointed out that that the equipment would enhance the operational capability of the Ports Authority Police in safeguarding port users, protecting critical infrastructure and preventing security breaches within the port environment.

The items donated included bulletproof vests, tactical helmets, raincoats, torchlights, handcuffs, operational boots, batons and other operational gear intended to improve the safety, preparedness and efficiency of police personnel.

The Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, Oluwatoyin Agbaminoja, who received the equipments, also commended the NPA management for what she described as a timely intervention and another demonstration of the long-standing collaboration between the Authority and the Nigeria Police Force.

Additionally, she said the donation reflected the shared commitment of both institutions to safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime gateways and creating a secure environment for port operations.

In her response, Agbaminoja assured that the equipment would be deployed effectively to strengthen policing across the ports, while reaffirming the command’s commitment to maintaining a safe and conducive environment for shipping, cargo handling and other economic activities.

Besides, she also pledged sustained collaboration with the NPA and other maritime stakeholders to ensure that Nigeria’s seaports remain secure, efficient and globally competitive.

Accordingly, she said the latest intervention underscores the Nigerian Ports Authority’s ongoing collaboration with security agencies to strengthen the protection of critical maritime infrastructure, improve investor confidence and support seamless trade through the nation’s seaports.

The details of the donation were contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, ASP Isaac Hundeyi.
