Comptroller Bamisaiye Intensifies Effort In Anti-Smuggling Operations

In pursuance of the suppression of smuggling and prevention of revenue loss in Western Marine Command of Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller P. K. Bamisaiye and his officers and men of the Command has remained resolute in preventing economic saboteurs from duty evasion.
In spite of the continuous challenges facing the Western Marine Command to suppress smuggling, the Command has made concerted effort s in the area of anti-smuggling activities which has resulted in the seizures of 26 items with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N843, 424, 000.00 representing a significant increase of N724, 842, 665. 00 from the 2023 performance of N118, 581, 335. 00 representing a percentage increase of 611.26 percent by the Command in the mid-year report.
In the area of anti-smuggling activities, Comptroller Bamisaiye said the command has made significant impact which has resulted to a total seizure of 5, 685 loaves of cannabis sativa with a Duty Paid Value DPV of N711, 700, 500 .00 in the first months of the year which has led to impressive performance.
In an effort to efforce necessary federal government policies amid the ongoing economic challenges facing the country and in achieving the core mandate of the Service within Western Marine Command, the Customs Area Controller, P. K. Bamisaiye, announced that the Western Marine Command has continued to demonstrate commendable performance in anti-smuggling operations which has resulted in a total seizure of 925 bags of 50kg bags of foreign parboiled rice between January and June 2024 with a Duty Paid Value DPV of N97, 448, 000.00 representing a significant increase of N10, 000, 000. 00 from the 2023 performance of N86, 600, 000.00
He noted that within the period under review, the command has recorded remarkable improvement in the area of anti-smuggling activities leading to the seizure of 21, 500 liters of Petroleum Motor Spirit PMS with a Duty Paid Value DPV of N14, 186, 000.00 between January and June 2024 as against 17, 865 liters intercepted in the same period of 2023 with a Duty Paid Value DPV of N2, 707, 433 .00
The Customs Area Controller of Western Marine Command, Comptroller P. K. Bamisaiye, who announced this when he gave account of his stewardship on the performance of the Command, also promised to leave no stone unturned in supporting the Comptroller-General of Custom’s policy thrust and his management efforts in meeting the anti-smuggling targets.
The Public Relations Officer of Western Marine Command, CSC Magaji, in a press statement attributed the impressive anti-smuggling performance to enhanced monitoring, enforcement, strategic collaboration and dedication of the officers and men of the Command who are determined to make sure that smuggling activities through waterways and greeks are effectively checked.
Comptroller Bamisaiye disclosed that the act of smuggling poses a grave threat to national security and economic stability, hence the major reason why officers and men of the command are committed to combating this menace with unwavering resolve.
He expressed his profound gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi and his management team for initiating various strategies that have enhanced the performance of the command, which has led to achieving the core mandate of the Service within Western Marine Command
