As a key decision maker responsible for driving policy implementation of his command, and ensuring that his decision align with customs mandate,
Comptroller Frank Onyeka, the Customs Area Controller of Tincan Island Port Command, recently stressed the importance of conducting thorough examinations of consignments before their release from the port.
At a parade ground on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, he urged officers to carry out diligent inspections to avoid unnecessary stop-and-search actions upon departure. He stressed the need to prioritize National security in all decisions.
Comptroller Onyeka, further commended the workforce for their contributions to the command’s revenue performance in January, while encouraging them to continue striving for excellence.
In order to prioritize continuous training and capacity building programmes for officers and men of his command, he announced his plan to organize capacity-building workshops aimed at enhancing the knowledge of officers and stakeholders on customs processes.
Beside cautioning officers to maintain professionalism and civility in their interactions with the trading public, he also warned them that he would not tolerate any reports of misconduct.
Furthermore, Comptroller Onyeka is reported to play host to the newly deployed Director of State Services Mr. SM Kayode, and the Executive Chairman of Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFLON) Alhaji Akeem Ayibojo and his members who paid familiarisation visits to the Command.
According to a press statement made available by the Public Relations Officer of Tincan Island Port Command, O E Ivara pjsc, superintendent of customs, the visits, was held separately within the command, in reaffirmation of the commitment of the two organizations to collaborate in ensuring smooth port operations and preventing the entry of harmful products.
In his reaction to some of the technical issues raised by APFLON, Comptroller Onyeka took his time out to clarify that the command is repositioned towards promoting the three core mandates of the Comptroller-General of Customs, which is centred on collaboration, consolidation, and innovation, towards creating a safe and conducive working environment that will not pose a threat to the Nation and it citizenry.
At the end of the courtesy visit, Comptroller Onyeka, continuously called on all the stakeholders to broaden their knowledge on the implementation of new policies of the service, as B’Odogwu clearance system in the command will soon be launched by the Comptroller General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, to further boost the efficiency of customs operations.
