Comptroller Paul Bamisaiye Hands Over Cannabis Sativa And Codeine To NDLEA AND NAFDAC
In line with the CGC’S policy thrust on collaboration consolidation and innovation, the Western Marine Customs Command, under the exceptional leadership of Comptroller Paul Bamisaiye, has recorded another breakthrough in anti-smuggling operations, which resulted to the interception and formally handing over of 4,973 loaves of cannabis sativa, 195 bottles of 300ml codeine and two suspects to NDLEA and NAFDAC for further investigation and prosecution.
He recalled that on Friday 21st February 2025, members of the press were told of the seizure of 53 sacks of cannabis sativa, while two suspects with 29 loaves of cannabis sativa concealed in a sack of rebagged rice were intercepted by one of the command’s patrol team on Monday 24th February 2025, within Badagry axis.
According to Comptroller Paul Bamisaiye, these seizures were made across the South-Western waterways, in reaffirmation of commitment of the command to securing our waterways and stopping illicit trade.
He attributed this success to strong inter-agency collaborations. In addition, he said: “No single agency can win this fight alone, but together, we can make a real impact”.
Moreover, he extended his sincere appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs and his management team, for providing the right equipment, welfare, and good working conditions that empower its officers to carry out their duties effectively.
He told NDLEA and NAFDAC officials that, the handover will aid the fight against drug abuse and illicit trade, while warning smugglers to stay clear, as the command remains vigilant, resolute, and relentless.
