Comptroller Joe Anani Makes Significant Achievements In Revenue Generation
••• Records a total of N350.3billion as revenue, from January to September 2025, and intercepts two containers of unregistered drugs worth N200 million.
Amid the various prevailing economic challenges facing Nigeria, the Customs Area Controller of the Ports Terminal Multi services Limited (PTML) command of Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Joe Anani, has demonstrated much resilience and has successfully generated the sum of N350,347,173,787.2 from the month of January to September 2025.
Comptroller Joe Anani, who made this known during a press conference at the command on Friday, also stated that the revenue performance of the command is increased by 96.4%, almost equivalent of total collection of 2024 revenue which stood at N362, 521, 085, 250. 98 billion collected from January to December 2024.
Commenting on the Anti-smuggling operations , Comptroller Joe Anani said during the period under review the command had intercepted firearms ranging from 1 pistol, 2 magazines and 12 rounds of live ammunition.
The breakdown of the intercepted items include, a 40 foot container carrying 6,662 cartons of unregistered antibiotics of various brands, 20foot container with number GCLU1275880 falsely declared as supermarket items, but upon 100 percent examination it was found to contain pharmaceutical drugs, with the Duty Paid Value of the containers at N200million
He told journalists, that he took over a well organised command and under his watch, the command have sustained the tempo in terms of revenue generation, trade facilitation, suppression of smuggling, stakeholders engagement, inter-agency collaboration and many more.
He announced that as the pilot command for the Bodogwu trade platform, PTML has made huge success using the B’Odogwu platform, as this is evident in the command’s volume of trade process and revenue collected so far.
Besides, a comparative analysis of the command revenue performance in the month of July, August and September, of the same period of 2024, has shown that the command has maintained a steady increase in revenue collection.
In the same vein, Comptroller Joe Anani, who said despite the teething challenges of B’Odogwu which the command is fast overcoming, also said that from July to September 2025, the command has collected a total sum of N116.243,603,670, 58
He disclosed that this revenue figure is 34.3% higher than the N86,584 billion collected in the same period of last year.
Similarly, he said
three months to the end of 2025, the command have made N96.4%, almost equivalent of total collection of 2024.
The report said,
this command collected N362,521,85253,86 as total revenue for last year.
In the area of anti-smuggling drive, he said the command remain intact without any form of compromise, as the command is not compromising national security on the alter of trade facilitation.
He said in line with the collaboration policy trust of the CGC, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the containers were handed over to the Director, Port Operations of NAFDAC.
Dr Olakunle Olanitan, Director, Port Inspectorate Division of NAFDAC, who received the drugs from Comptroller Joe Anani, commended the Nigeria Customs Service under the Comptroller-General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, as well as the PTML Command under Compt Anani for ensuring that products that are substandard are not allowed into the public space.
In his comment, the NAFDAC Director said, if the fake drugs had entered into the Nigerian society, it would have caused unimaginable damages including death.
Dr Olakunle Olaniran is quoted as saying that: “The products displayed here are products that are fast moving in the market. High Blood pressure control medicines are here, the antibiotics are here, when you see the packaging, you will not be able to differentiate this bad medicine from the good ones”.
Dr Olaniran used the opportunity to call on all Nigerians to always patronise registered pharmaceutical shops when they are in need to purchase pharmaceutical drugs.
He is quoted as stating that: “When you want to buy medicines, please patronise a licensed pharmacy where you would see a pharmacist to attend to you. Dont patronise hawkers and people moving about with briefcases”.
