Area I Command, Port Harcourt Deepens Community Engagement Efforts Through CSR Initiative
Area I Command, Port Harcourt, of Nigeria Customs Service has deepened its community engagement efforts through the donation of educational materials to pupils of Model Primary School I and II, Orominike, D-Line, Port Harcourt.
The educational outreach, carried out under the command’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, was aimed at supporting basic education and strengthening relations with host communities.
In a statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC I Barilule Aanee, on Tuesday, 11 December 2025, said the initiative reflected its commitment to people-centred development.
Dignitaries in attendance at the event included National President of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, alongside education stakeholders and representatives of sister security agencies.
Items donated during the event included school bags, notebooks, uniforms and other learning materials.
Commenting at the event, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Salamatu Atuluku, who described education as a critical investment in national development, also noted that the intervention aligns with the vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, which prioritises initiatives that positively impact communities.
She said, supporting basic education remains one of the most effective ways to empower children, strengthen families and secure the nation’s future. She added that the command will continue to implement programmes focused on youth development and community welfare.
Commenting at the event, Mrs. Adeniyi encouraged the pupils to remain disciplined and committed to their studies, stressing that education is the foundation of a strong and progressive society.
Still, she reaffirmed COWA’s commitment to supporting children and vulnerable groups within customs host communities.
A representative of the Rivers State Ministry of Education, Emmanuel Onumgbu, who commended the Nigeria Customs Service for the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful, also expressed the Ministry’s willingness to collaborate with the Service on future educational initiatives.
Besides, goodwill messages were also delivered by representatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, who applauded the initiative and called for sustained support for public schools.
The Head Teacher of Model Primary School, in response expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Customs Service, noting that the donation will help ease the financial burden on parents and improve the learning environment for pupils.
