Comptroller Joe Anani Pledges Sustainable Media Partnership In Promoting Public Trust
The Customs Area Controller of Tin-Can Island Port Command, Comptroller Joe Anani, has pledged to partner with the media to strengthen stakeholders engagement, compliance, transparency, and efficiency as part of the efforts to enhance the command’s performance.
The Customs Area Controller of Tin-Can Island Port Command Comptroller Joe Anani who gave the assurance during his first media engagement with maritime journalists, also said the press is a strategic partner in promoting accountability, shaping public understanding, and enhancing compliance within the system.
Commenting during his maiden interactive session with maritime journalists, Comptroller Joe Anani announced that the command has generated over N111.2 billion revenue in the month of May 2026.
He attributed the impressive revenue performance to the operational framework established by his predecessor, Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) Frank Onyeka.
In order to strengthen media partnership, Comptroller Joe Anani pointed out plans by the command to train maritime journalists through sensitisation workshops, and capacity building programmes to deepen understanding of customs procedures and operations.
Comptroller Joe Anani, who acknowledged the role of the media in the success of their operations, also said that media reportage significantly influence public perception of the command’s activities, and by extension the effectiveness of their mandate.
He clearly stated that the press will play a vital role in the command’s administration, policies, operations, reforms, and the achievements.
He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring timely, accurate, and transparent flow of information to enable maritime journalists perform their duties effectively.
Comptroller Joe Anani is quoted as saying that: We recognize that a well-informed and well-equipped press corps will not only enhance the quality of reportage, but also strengthen institutional understanding of our operations and challenges”.
He charged maritime journalists to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in their reportage of the command’s activities.
Still, he said responsible journalism practice is critical to maintaining public trust, prevent misinformation, and ensuring that their collective objectives are not undermined by inaccurate or misleading information.
He expressed strong commitment that the command will not relent in leveraging the ongoing modernisation drive, and will also strengthening systems, processes, and technology-driven solutions to enhance efficiency, and trade facilitation at the port.
Additionally, he said in line with the new mandate the command will uphold total compliance with applicable laws and regulations as enshrined in the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023.
He appreciated the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, PhD, for the confidence reposed in him through his appointment to head the strategic command.
He expressed great pleasure for the Comptroller-General of Customs’ visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to reforming and repositioning the Service for greater efficiency and global competitiveness.
Commenting during the media parley, Comptroller Joe Anani said the command is open, collaborative, and committed to constructive engagement with stakeholders, especially the media.
In his words: “Together, Tin-Can Island Port Command can continue to play its critical role in national growth, trade facilitation, and revenue generation.
To strengthen the media relationship, the Public Relations Unit is specifically charged with the responsibility of ensuring that all press related matters receive the deserve attention.
Accordingly, the unit is instructed to maintain cordial relationship with the media, through providing timely information, and fostering mutual understanding, believing that a strong partnership with the media is essential to achieving their objectives and keeping the public adequately informed about their activities.
